Rupai Sajur Upakhyan Synopsis :
The new production of our Thakurnagar Pratidhwani Sanskritik Sanstha, ‘Rupai Saju-r Upakhyan’ based on Palli Kavi Jasim Uddin’s ‘Nakshi Kathar Math’, a book of poetry famous in Bengal for its lyric and melody. Our production will give the audience a purely aesthetic feeling through a folk love story of Rupai and Saju. Rupai, traditional lover of rural Bengal and his lady love Saju, a shamefaced, simple girl with rustic beauty are famous for their immortal love for each other. The play begins with a ‘Vatialy song (a famous genre of folk song of Bengal)’ Sung by Rupai and Saju along with the chorus. Then the chorus describes the beauty of two rural villages and their people through song and dance.
The dance choreography has moved the audience everywhere we have performed the drama. Besides the drama visualizes village woman of Bengali Farmers families observed the ritual to bring rain. The women of rural Bengal celebrated it and they organized “Mangan” (begging) to celebrate the ritual. They did the Mangan through the in our production. There is also another folk culture ceremony. The production is also show the hardship of village life as it is witnessed till today. The Farmers efforts to protect their crops or land, their valor and fear to the rules of the country are shown in the drama. The drama will surely entertain the audience with its folk melody, rustic culture and touching love story.
